Connemara, Ireland

Bád Mór

The inspiration for this contemporary house on the edge of Lough Corrib and the Connemara National Park was the abstracted form of the traditional Galway Hooker boats – the largest of which is known simply as
Bád Mór (Big Boat). The sails of these boats were interpreted in the seams of the brown pigmented zinc. The external facades use local Liscannor stone and Cedar cladding, for a ‘zero maintenance’ exterior.
